Magnetic Multi-Color Butterfly (No AMS Needed!)

I love butterflies, but many designs online rely on AMS (Bambu’s multi-color system). After my AMS broke, I designed these butterflies so they can be printed in multi-color without AMS. They are magnetic and snap onto any steel surface — a simple, bright decoration for your fridge, whiteboard, or workspace.

The two-tone effect is achieved by separating the black outline and the colored infill into different layers. To print in multi-color, add a manual pause after the first layer is complete, swap to your chosen filament, and resume the print. For example, in Bambu Studio with the Standard 0.2 mm profile, set a pause at 0.4 mm. The printer will pause after the first layer is done; change filament, then continue. You will get the same result as shown in the photos — every butterfly pictured was printed without AMS.

Each butterfly attaches magnetically to its base. You will need 6 × 2 mm round magnets and a small amount of super glue. The magnet is glued into the base, while the butterfly snaps onto the base with no glue required. For other magnet sizes, the model is easy to adapt: I have included a base without a magnet hole so you can add a hole at the bottom to suit your magnets (please use magnets that are 2 mm thick).
