BIC 4 Colours Tactical Pen – 3D Printable Upgrade
I've always liked the BIC 4 Colours pen, but I've never been a big fan of its original plastic body. So I decided to design my own, giving my favourite four-colour pen a completely new look!
This 3D-printable redesign features a tactical, military-inspired style while reusing the original BIC 4 Colours ink refills and springs, retaining the original four-colour functionality.
Important Printing Notes
High-precision printing is strongly recommended to ensure the click mechanism works smoothly.
I printed mine using:
Nozzle: 0.4 mm
Layer height: 0.08 mm
Slicer: Bambu Studio, default 0.08 mm High Quality profile
As shown in the GIF, the mechanism works very smoothly, allowing seamless switching between all four colours.
If you use a lower-resolution or faster print setting, you may need to manually remove any burrs, rough edges or printing imperfections from the moving parts. Otherwise, the click mechanism may stick or jam.
Assembly
For instructions on removing the ink refills and springs from the original BIC pen and assembling the new pen, check out my video tutorial: https://youtu.be/B03zwEvUXZw?si=zU2Pk5CTWo0wtPih
As shown in the tutorial video, inserting the ink refills into the 3D-printed pen can be a little tricky. I recommend loosely positioning all four refills first, making sure each one is aligned with the correct hole before pushing them in. You may need to wiggle the refills around quite a bit to get them properly seated, so be patient and avoid forcing them. As you can see in the video, I actually forced one in and ended up bending the refill slightly! Fortunately, a minor bend doesn't seem to affect how well the pen works.
